Leak sends latex solution into Kanawha River
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Someone opened a valve on a state Division of Highways truck and leaked a latex-enhancing solution near Magic Island Thursday.
The DOH parked several trucks and equipment in an area under the Fort Hill Bridge during the weekend. Someone apparently broke into that area and opened a valve on one of the trucks, said state Department of Environmental Protection spokeswoman Kathy Cosco.
The truck leaked a latex concrete additive into a storm drain. Some of the solution went into the Kanawha River near Magic Island. The chemical is not harmful, and crews were working to clean it up Thursday, Cosco said.
