One arrested in convenience store break-in; 2nd suspect ID'd
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies arrested one man and are seeking another they say were caught on camera breaking into a Cross Lanes convenience store Monday.
Sgt. Sean Snuffer of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said the two men drove up to the Go-Mart at 123 Goff Mountain Road just before 5 a.m. Monday in a black Ford Ranger pickup. Snuffer said security cameras captured one man entering a back door of the convenience store and gas station before breaking into an office and taking four bank deposit bags.
The other man on the security cameras got out to the truck, stripped to his underwear and socks and walked around before being seen trying to break into a restroom.
Snuffer said the store's clerk was helping customers at the time and did not see either man.
After releasing video surveillance photographs, Snuffer said deputies received numerous calls identifying the suspects as two Cross Lanes men. Gay Washington, 38, turned himself in to deputies at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Snuffer said. Deputies also are seeking Tyler A. Williams, 22.
Williams will be charged with breaking and entering, Snuffer said. Washington is charged with being an accessory after the fact to breaking and entering.
Washington was being held Tuesday afternoon in the South Central Regional Jail.
Anyone with information about Williams' whereabouts is asked to call the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department, at 304-357-0169.
