CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charges may be filed against a man who rear-ended two Charleston city police cars early this morning.Sgt. Nick Null of the Charleston Police Department said city police officers Cpl. P. Kapeluck and Ptl. E. Mays were stopped in the fast lane not far from the westbound Montrose Drive exit of Interstate 64 at about 3:15 a.m. to investigate a traffic accident when a Ford Explorer drove up behind them and slammed into the rear of one of the officer's police cruisers. The impact forced the car into the rear of the police cruiser parked in front of it, Null said."He basically didn't slow down at all [before hitting the police cars]," Null said.
Null said one cruiser was severely damaged in the wreck and the other received moderate damage. Neither officer was hurt.
The driver of the Explorer, Brett Dunlap, 26, was taken to CAMC General Hospital. Dunlap listed addresses in both Sod and Cross Lanes, Null said.Null said alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash.
