Teen board tryoutsCharleston Town Center Mall will have tryouts for its Teen Board at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in Macy's Court. Teens serve as goodwill ambassadors for a one-year term. Selected students can gain community-service hours. Students enrolled in ninth through 12th grades throughout West Virginia are eligible to audition for Teen Board. Students will complete an application form at the audition, talk with a panel of judges and walk onstage. Modeling experience is not required and no photos are necessary. Students are selected based on their application information, personality, availability and interest. Additional information is available at www.charlestontowncenter.com.Hobbit trivia contestAll branches of the Kanawha County Public Library will present a hobbit trivia contest Wednesday through Oct. 18. Participants will need to answer 10 trivia questions based on J.R.R. Tolkien's books. Everyone with the correct answers will be entered into a drawing for a special-edition hobbit-size copy of "The Hobbit." Trivia forms will be located at all Kanawha County Public Library locations.Food drive
West Virginia State University students will conduct a food drive to benefit Manna Meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Lakin Field as the WVSU Yellow Jackets take on West Liberty Hilltoppers. The football game begins at 1 p.m. The drive is part of the Governor's Day to Serve. Donations will be accepted at the front gate and those who donate will receive a discounted game admission price of $2. Donations include any nonperishable food items such as canned goods, cereal, potato flakes, condiments or pasta, beverages, or sugar and spices. Spaces are $15 each; sellers must provide their own tables, tents and chairs. A few electrical outlets are available on a first-reserve basis. The fundraiser benefits campus organization groups. A barbecue pig roast with all the fixings, live entertainment, raffle drawings for a "bacon basket," activities including cornhole, a K9 demonstration and more will be featured. The cost is a $20 donation for adults and $10 donation for kids 10 and under.
