Mental exam ordered in Clarksburg shooting deaths
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. -- A man accused of shooting and killing four people in Clarksburg will undergo psychiatric evaluation before his trial.
Harrison County Circuit Judge James Matish granted a mental exam Tuesday for Sidney Muller, 27, of Fairmont.
Media outlets said his public defenders requested the exam, and the judge questioned them at length.
Police say Muller killed four people in a drug-related shooting in July. Two of the victims were innocent bystanders -- newspaper deliveryman Freddy Donald Swiger and his son, Fred Swiger. Also killed were Todd Russell Amos, 29 of Clarksburg and Christopher Hart, 26.
Muller's lawyers cited military records and medications during the hearing in Clarksburg.
Muller has been held on four counts of first-degree murder at the North Central Regional Jail since the slayings.
