Tutor training workshopLiteracy Volunteers of Kanawha County are sponsoring a free tutor training workshop to be held Friday, Saturday and Oct. 4 and 5. The Friday sessions will meet from 6 to 9 p.m., and the Saturday sessions will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St. To register, call LVKC at 304-343-7323. Tutoring services of Literacy Volunteers are free and confidential.Painting workshopUnity of Kanawha Valley: will sponsor "A Splash of Paint" workshop for art-timid adults from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at 804 Myrtle Road. Park and enter at the back. The cost is $10 for supplies, which are provided. Love offerings are also accepted. Classes will be led by Barbie Dallmann. Trail club hikeKanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike Sunday in Kanawha State Forest, Four Mile Mountain. Meet at 1:30 p.m. to carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at the trail's parking area. The hike is approximately 4 miles on a mostly easy trail with a few steep grades. See views of the mountaintop removal site.Buffalo OctoberfestThe 26th Annual Buffalo Octoberfest will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 19 at an area located one mile north of the Toyota plant in Buffalo, Putnam County. Food, music, crafts, apple butter, animals, contests, living history, Octoberfest Family Fun Fest, WVU Tailgate Tent, "Cruise In" and more will be featured. Everything is free, including exhibit booth space. To reserve a space, call 304-937-2747.
