January trial set for Virginia man accused of killing mayor
WELCH, W.Va. -- A Virginia man accused of killing War Mayor Thomas Hatcher is scheduled to stand trial in early 2014.
The trial of 27-old Earl Click of Grundy, Va., originally was set for August.
McDowell County prosecutor Edward Kornish says tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that McDowell County Circuit Court Judge Booker T. Stephens on Wednesday rescheduled Click's trial for Jan. 29, 2014.
Stephens also appointed a new layer for Click.
Click and co-defendant Rebecca Lynn Hatcher of War are each charged with first-degree murder in the mayor's slaying in July 212. Hatcher is Click's sister and the 72-year-old victim's daughter-in-law. Her trial is scheduled for Oct. 30 before Judge Rudolph J. Murensky II.
Police say the motive was to get money to buy drugs.
