Arrest made in Rand beating
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man accused of beating a Rand resident over the weekend for failing to share a cigarette is behind bars.
Robert Lee Critchfield, 31, of Rand, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with malicious wounding, according to Cpl. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies believe Critchfield beat Roger Fore, 40, of Rand with a pipe or other blunt object after Fore refused to give him a cigarette. Fore was walking along Elaine Drive on Sept. 21 when Critchfield allegedly rode up behind him on a bicycle.
Fore was treated for cuts and blunt force trauma at CAMC General Hospital following the alleged attack.
