New CEO named for Adventures on the Gorge

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- David M. Hartvigsen, vice president for sales and marketing for Xanterra Parks and Resorts, a primary concessionaire at Grand Canyon, Crater Lake, Yellowstone and Zion national parks, will become CEO of Adventures on the Gorge in Fayette County starting in October.In his role with Xanterra, Hartvigsen supervised all corporate and property-level sales and marketing functions, including direct sales, central reservations, website development, e-commerce, public relations and advertising, and served as liaison with senior National Park Service officials.Prior to joining Xanterra, Hartvigsen was senior vice president in charge of lodging for Intrawest, a resort company with holdings that include Snowshoe Mountain in Pocahontas County, Whistler in British Columbia, and Copper Mountain and Winter Park in Colorado.
"Moving to West Virginia and joining the Adventures on the Gorge team hits a lot of high notes for me," said Hartvigsen. "As an avid outdoorsman, I will be able to enjoy a number of my favorite activities, including some of the most exciting whitewater rafting, zipline adventures, hiking and mountain biking trails. I want to help others share in the joy that comes from being active in the outdoors and this role will be key to doing just that."An Eagle Scout, the new Adventures on the Gorge CEO said he looks forward to forming partnerships with the nearby Summit Bechtel Scouting Reserve. His experience at working with National Park Service officials in his role at Xanterra should help him strengthen relationships with officials at New River Gorge National River, he said."Bringing a management leader to our company who has the background and experience that he has will ensure that our company will continue to grow while we pursue our vision of becoming the top adventure destination in the United States," said Brian Campbell, managing partner of Adventures on the Gorge.Adventures on the Gorge, headquartered in Ames Heights, borders three miles of the New River Gorge National River. Its 1,000-acre campus includes four restaurants, rental cabins, vacation homes, campsites, TreeTops Canopy Tour, Gravity Zip Lines, TimberTrek Aerial Adventure Park and Canyon Falls Swimming Hole.
