Homecoming activities begin at WVSU

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Homecoming festivities at West Virginia State University kick off Thursday and last through the weekend, and will include a pig roast and a 5K run, as well as other activities.

Thursday, a National Alumni Association board meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Charleston, followed by a free Young Alumni Mixer at 6 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center.

On Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., alumni registration will be open at Embassy Suites.

A homecoming golf outing will be held at Little Creek Country Club beginning at 10 a.m. Friday. The golf event costs $50, and all proceeds go to the WVSU "W" Club, which supports athletic programs at the school.

Walking tours, a university archives open house, and an ROTC induction ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on campus Friday.

A Planned Giving Seminar will be held at 2 p.m. in the Davis Fine Arts building Friday, and will offer financial advice to WVSU's donors.

An alumni forum and chat with WVSU President Brian Hemphill will follow at 3 p.m.

Coronation will be held at 5 p.m. in the P.A. Williams Auditorium, followed by a class reunion and dinner at Embassy Suites at 7:30 p.m. to honor William Lonesome, WVSU's Alumnus of the Year.

Tickets for the reunion cost $50.

A comedy show in the P.A. Williams Auditorium begins at 9 p.m. Friday and costs $10. The show will feature comedian Michael Blackson.

A "W" Club dance will close out Friday's festivities at 10 p.m. at the Embassy Suites.

A Yellow Jacket 5K Run/Walk will be held at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning beginning at the student union. Registration costs $25 the day of the event, and proceeds will go to benefit WVSU students.

A parade, tailgating events and a family fun area will be assembled on campus around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the homecoming football game vs. Urbana University's Blue Knights at 1:30 p.m.

A pig roast hosted by Hemphill will be held at the student plaza following the game.

A step show is scheduled for the P.A. Williams Auditorium at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10.

At 8 p.m. Saturday, a National Alumni Association dinner and dance will be held at Embassy Suites. Tickets are $50 and include a buffet dinner.

The festivities end with a Young Alumni Black & Gold Party at the Town Center Marriott at 10 p.m.
