Woman, 20, sought in local man's slaying

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies are seeking a 20-year-old woman they say killed a Charleston man who's been missing for more than a week.Marmet resident Kelsey Marie Legg lured Kareem Howell Hunter, 28, to her apartment at 207 1/3 83rd Street to kidnap him on Sept. 23, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.Legg had told her brother, Matthew, that she lured Hunter there so that a man could place a bag over his head and take him out of her apartment, according to the complaint.Matthew Legg told sheriff's deputies Wednesday that he heard a disturbance at his sister's apartment the night of Sept. 23. He saw two men remove a body from his sister's apartment and place it in the trunk of a car, according to the complaint. That disturbance had been reported to Kanawha County Metro 911, police say.Hunter's family reported him missing to Charleston police. Charleston detectives looked for Hunter for about a week before Matthew Legg alerted them to what he'd heard and seen at his sister's apartment.
Detectives went there and contacted sheriff's deputies to seek a search warrant. That's when police reportedly discovered large bloodstains throughout the apartment. Neighbors told police that Kelsey Legg apparently cleaned the apartment, painted walls and replaced carpet after the Sept. 23 disturbance, the complaint states.Kanawha Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Humphreys said police have not found Hunter's body.Anyone with information on Legg's whereabouts or the identity of the two men is asked to call the Charleston Police Department, at 304-348-6480, or the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department, at 304-357-0169.Legg was arrested in May after police reportedly found marijuana, cash and scales inside her apartment during a home-confinement check. She was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.This is the sixth slaying investigated in Kanawha County this year. Two of those were murder-suicide investigations. Only one investigation remains unsolved. Shane Patrick Henry, 26, was found slain near a Dumpster in Mink Shoals on June 15.
