State lawmakers seek Virginia highway funding info

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Three West Virginia lawmakers are traveling to Richmond to learn more about how Virginia pays for its highways.The Journal reports that the state delegates will meet Wednesday with a fellow Republican, Virginia House Speaker William Howell.Delegate Daryl Cowles of Morgan County says the group is especially interested in learning more about how Virginia is saving money in its road construction and maintenance programs. They also want information about the economic impact of Virginia's new transportation funding plan, which eliminates the state gasoline tax and raises various other taxes and fees.
Cowles is minority chairman of the House Roads and Transportation Committee. Joining him on the trip are committee members Paul Espinosa of Jefferson and Gary Howell of Mineral.
