Humane association boardThe Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association board of directors will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at its location at 1248 Greenbrier St.Charleston Area AllianceCharleston Area Alliance's next Business After Hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Charleston Embassy Suites, 300 Court St. The hotel will host an Oktoberfest celebration with traditional German food and entertainment. There will also be door prizes. The early-bird rate is $15 for alliance members and $25 for nonmembers. Online advance registration ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The school will accept donations of nonperishable food items, including those most urgently needed by Manna Meal: canned and powdered milk, peanut butter and jelly, canned soup, canned meats, macaroni-and-cheese mix, SpaghettiOs, spaghetti sauce with meat, and dried spaghetti and pasta noodles. Canned items should have pull-tab tops. Donations may be brought to the school during normal school hours through Nov. 12. Kerri Wade from WVU Extension Service shares tips on properly preparing a turkey, from when to purchase it to how long to cook it. Wade includes recipes for healthy, budget-friendly side dishes to go along with the bird. The program is for adults.
