Charleston Police make arrest in June shooting
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A New York man wanted since June for a shooting and robbery on Charleston's West Side was arrested Wednesday morning.
Police went to Littlepage Terrace after receiving a tip on Wednesday and found Steven Thompson, 22, hiding under a blanket, according to Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper.
Thompson allegedly shot Ollie Nicholson, 22, of Detroit, in the face and back at a vacant house in the 1600 block of Red Oak Street on June 6.
Nicholson, of Detroit, eventually escaped by running a few blocks to a house on Clay Avenue, where he went inside and locked the door. He then asked the female homeowner to call 911 before collapsing, police said earlier.
Paramedics arrived and took Nicholson to CAMC General Hospital. He has recovered from his injuries, Cooper said.
Detectives found one handgun shell casing inside the vacant home and several more casings outside.
Thompson faces charges of malicious wounding, kidnapping and first-degree robbery, Cooper said. He was taken to the South Central Regional Jail, where he is being held on $100,000 bail.
