Low turnout expected for levy election

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Although Kanawha County Clerk Vera McCormick said early voting totals for Saturday's school levy election were not bad, county officials expect a low turnout on election day."Usually on a Saturday, it's really low," McCormick said. She predicted a turnout between 9 and 12 percent.
"Some of the counties averaged 7 percent this year," she said.McCormick said 4,166 people cast early ballots for the levy election, including about 700 on the last day of early voting. Early ballots accounted for about 3 percent of the county's 134,000 registered voters.County voters are asked to approve a $24 million school levy that includes about $3 million in funding for the Kanawha County Public Library system. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
