Belle family selling extensive glass collection

One of the more unusual pieces in Marietta Richmond's glass collection is the epergne in the upper right corner. Hundreds of pieces of glass displayed at the Richmond home in Belle will be offered for sale.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston-area family is offering an extensive display of collectible glass for sale.Marietta Richmond and her sister collected the treasures throughout the years from estate sales and flea markets.Jeff Richmond said he and his siblings had no idea how big the collection was until after the death of their father last February.Jeff Richmond bought the family home in Belle with plans to remodel it. He asked a Charleston business specializing in estate sales to help with the glass collection.More than 1,000 pieces were found."It was a treasure hunt," said Chuck Hamsher, co-owner of The Purple Moon in Charleston. "They were behind things and under things. We ended up with way more than we thought. There literally was glass everywhere."
The Charleston Daily Mail reported that an estate sale is planned at the home on Saturday and Sunday, and another one is planned for later this month. Hamsher said prices will range from $5 to $500.Hundreds of pieces were in cabinets on the home's main and second levels. Older pieces were found in the basement."A lot of the stuff sitting in the basement I had never seen before," Richmond said. "Mom had never displayed it."Among the pieces in the collection are iridescent carnival glass and opalescent hobnail glass made by Fenton Glass, Hummel figurines, Royal Doulton china, Dresden porcelain and pieces by Fostoria and Blenko.Richmond said his mother rarely used punch bowls, pitchers or glasses from the collection because she didn't want to risk breaking them.Richmond and his two siblings already have taken the pieces they want. He kept a large candy dish and a few pieces made by Fenton Glass. His sister took some porcelain dolls.
