Public comments sought on Bluestone Dam project
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a public meeting in Hinton on the environmental impact of modifications to the Bluestone Dam near Hinton.
The workshop and open house is set for Dec. 5 at the Summers County memorial Building.
The corps is preparing an environmental impact statement on the project and is looking for public comments and suggestions. The environmental impact statement is tentatively scheduled to be released for public review and comment in 2014. Bluestone began operations in 1949, and plans were unveiled to bring it up to modern engineering standards in 2000. The project will strengthen the dam's stability and allow for increased discharge capacity.
