Martinsburg man accused of faking cancer gets four months

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg man will spend four months in jail after pleading no contest to charges that he falsely claimed he had terminal cancer and fraudulently obtained money from a benefit.Steven L. Mohn also must complete 250 hours of community service.
Media outlets reported that Mohn, 40, pleaded no contest to attempted fraudulent schemes Monday in Berkeley County Circuit Court. He also pleaded guilty to delivery of oxycodone.Mohn was accused of fraudulently obtaining more than $4,000 in cash, merchandise and gift certificates from a benefit held on his behalf in 2012.Judge Gray Silver III suspended prison sentences on the charges and ordered Mohn to serve five years' probation. The jail term and community service are conditions of the probation.
