Second suspect charged in theft of statue brass

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police on Tuesday arrested a second suspect in connection with the brass light fixtures stolen from the West Virginia Veterans Memorial.Bryan Allen LeTart, 37, of Charleston, was charged with grand larceny, transferring and receiving stolen property and conspiracy.Letart helped Amanda Suzanne Young remove 14 nine-inch brass rings from light fixtures surrounding the memorial sometime before Nov. 18, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. The pair allegedly loaded the fixtures into a 1997 Honda Civic.
Young, 32, of Charleston, sold at least five of those light fixtures to Capitol Recycling in Kanawha City last week, police said. She was arrested and charged with transferring and receiving stolen property. Police on Tuesday also filed charges of grand larceny and conspiracy against Young.Letart is being held in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail. Young is being held there on a $1,000 bail.Capitol Police Officer M.S. Swecker recovered some of the light fixtures before they were recycled.
