Hurricane woman charged with embezzlement
HURRICANE, W.Va. -- A Hurricane woman has been charged with computer fraud and embezzlement in connection with a business owned by a city councilman, the city's mayor said Friday.
According to Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards, Sandra Ball reportedly stole roughly $450,000 over the course of several years from Brian Ellis, Hurricane city councilman and owner of Mountaineer 4x4 Unlimited. Ball was Ellis' bookkeeper, Edwards said.
No one could be reached at Mountaineer 4x4, and Edwards said Ellis did not want to discuss the situation. The investigating officer, Hurricane Police Cpl. Larry Angell, could not be reached, and a criminal complaint was not immediately available.
