CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies are warning business owners and store clerks to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills after a rash of funny money has been passed at area stores.Capt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said the most recent incident occurred Monday, when two fake $20 bills were passed at the 7-Eleven convenience store on Shadyside Road on the outskirts of St. Albans.
Crosier said the cashier was extremely busy at the time the bills were passed, and believes the culprit took advantage of the opportunity to get rid of the phony bills. He said counterfeit $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills have been passed at area stores in recent weeks.Deputies are reviewing video surveillance footage from the store in an attempt to track down the culprit.
