Union for 900 workers at WVU Hospitals OKs strike
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The union representing more than 900 workers at WVU Hospitals has authorized a strike.
The service workers will remain on the job as union leadership and hospital officials negotiate a new contract in hopes of averting a walkout.
The Dominion Post reported that members of Local 814 of the Laborers' International Union of North America voted down a proposed new contract Wednesday. The vote was 601-59.
The local's business manager, John Grossklaus, said the workers are seeking an extension on the current three-year contract while talks continue.
The union represents a broad range of jobs at WVUH.
