Man shot at Cross Lanes bar
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies are trying to figure out what led to an early morning shooting Thursday in Cross Lanes.
Cpl. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said deputies got a call about a fight outside Appetizer's Restaurant and Lounge on Goff Mountain Road at about 2:30 a.m. As police responded, another call came in saying someone had been shot.
"When they got there, it was very chaotic," Humphreys said. He said bar patrons and others were fleeing the scene.
"Multiple shots were fired, and several vehicles and buildings were struck," Humphreys said.
The fight and shooting took place outside the restaurant and lounge.
Humphreys said authorities believe more than one gun was fired during the incident. All of the shell casings recovered at the scene appear to have come from handguns.
He said Nitro police stopped a minivan trying to get onto Interstate 64 shortly after the shooting. Inside was the shooting victim, Carlo Gray, 22, of St. Albans. Humphreys said Gray had been hit in the leg.
Gray was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Humphreys said deputies were collecting evidence Thursday and trying to track down witnesses to the shooting. He said the investigation continues.
