Police: Fayette woman tied up, left at strip mine site
MEADOW BRIDGE -- Fayette County sheriff's deputies are searching for a man they say bound a woman's hands and feet together before leaving her at a strip mine.
Just before 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, a woman called 911 and said she was abducted in the Meadow Bridge area of Fayette County, said Sheriff Steve Kessler in a news release.
Betty Burns, 38, told deputies she got into an altercation with her boyfriend, Larry Nelson, 36, at the couple's house in Spring Dale early Wednesday afternoon. When Burns tried to leave, Nelson hit her in the head and then tied her hands and feet with rope, according to the release. He then allegedly taped her mouth with a sock and a handkerchief.
Nelson put Burns in his car and drove her to a strip mine site along Springdale Church Road, shoved her out and drove away, according to the release. Burns freed her legs and walked about 90 minutes to a nearby house, where she called 911. Paramedics took Burns to a nearby hospital, according to the release. Her condition was unknown.
Deputies filed charges of kidnapping and domestic violence against Nelson. Anyone with information about Nelson's whereabouts is asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff's Department at 304-574-3590.
