Logan man charged with stealing copper from mine
CARETTA, W.Va. -- A Logan County man faces charges of stealing copper from an idled coal mine in McDowell County.
State police Trooper C.A. Dunn tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph newspaper that Frank Kovach Jr., 41, of Kistler is charged with of destruction of property, theft, petit larceny and trespassing.
Kovach is accused of taking a section of mine cable from the Roadfork Mine. He also is accused of causing about $2,000 damage to electrical units and about $500 damage to a tram in the mine.
Dunn says a man who was with Kovach fled the scene.
Kovach was arrested Saturday.
The investigation is continuing.
