This was one of my surprises this year. While waiting for a trial to start in the Kanawha County Judicial Annex, I looked out the window to see a guy (Mike Huges of Smith Brothers Window Cleaning) hanging on the building across the street. We can plan and look for photos, but sometimes the best ones just happen.
A barge moves through thick fog on the Kanawha River in mid-January. This was also a "found" photo: I was late to a UC basketball game, driving down MacCorkle Avenue when I saw this barge moving toward me. I pulled into the Frontier parking lot to find an angle and wait for the barge to line up with the Capitol. The photo was "liked" on Facebook more than 400 times.
The Herbert Hoover Huskies celebrate their Class AA high school championship over the Polar Bears of Fairmont Senior at Appalachian Power Park in June. Corey Bird, who drove in two runs in the sixth-inning rally that led to the 7-5 win, finished the game on the mound and quelled a Polar Bear comeback. I just think it's a nice, spontaneous sports photo of a special moment in any ballplayer's life. The expressions speak for themselves.
A Great Blue Heron waits in the shallows of the Kanawha River for an unsuspecting meal to swim by during the last week of October. I like this clean nature image. It reminds me of being outdoors hiking, fishing and enjoying nature as a kid.
