West Liberty gets grant for research program

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- West Liberty University is getting a $156,000 grant to support a summer research program.Officials say the money is for a summer undergraduate research experience in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.The funds will be used over the next three summers to pay for workshops and seminars, as well as allow the university to offer stipends, room and board to qualified student interns.
Twelve students will be selected to take part in the research program. The interns will work with scientists to develop novel vaccines, survey crayfish biodiversity, perform anatomical studies or assess the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia.The grant was awarded by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission's Division of Science and Research.
