Belleville man charged with veterans museum theft
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- A Belleville man faces charges of stealing several items from the Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Parkersburg police tell media outlets that Robert Lawrence Burdette, 61, is charged with petit larceny.
Museum director Gary Farris says a World I-era bayonet, a World War II-era chaplain's cap and a World War II-era airborne military patch were stolen from the museum Jan. 4.
Police say Burdette returned the items Thursday and was arrested Friday.
Farris credits the arrest to a security system installed after a breaking and entering in 2011.
