Bluefield man sentenced in rescue squad theft

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The former administrator of the Bluefield Rescue Squad in Virginia is going to prison for stealing from the squad.According to the U.S. attorney's office, Thomas Franklin Carroll, 48, of Bluefield, W.Va., was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Abingdon, Va. He also was ordered to repay nearly $205,000.
Carroll previously pleaded guilty to bank fraud and identity theft.According to prosecutors, Carroll used at least four of the squad's credit cards for personal expenses between October 2008 and October 2011. And in May 2011, he obtained a bank loan without authorization from the squad's board of directors and deposited some of the proceeds into the squad's account in an attempt to hide his crime.
