Traveling sports exhibit kicking off tour of W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A traveling exhibit on the role of sports in American culture is kicking off in Parkersburg next month, the West Virginia Humanities Council says.The council is sponsoring a state tour of the new Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit "Hometown Teams." It will begin Feb. 9 at the Parkersburg Art Center.
Officials selected six museums and cultural and community organizations to host the exhibit and provide public programs about their local sports culture.The other sites selected are: Larry Joe Harless Community Center, in Gilbert; Preston County Sports Museum; Randolph County Community Arts Center; Weirton Area Museum & Cultural Center; and Morgantown History Museum.
