Coonskin to benefit from Macy's fundraising campaign
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Coonskin Park is one of 550 parks around the country to benefit from a fundraising campaign sponsored by Macy's department stores. From Friday through March 31, customers at Macy's in the Charleston Town Center can donate $1 or more at the register to the park as part of Macy's "Heart Your Park" fundraising campaign. Macy's will match customer donations dollar for dollar up to $250,000, according to a company news release.Kanawha County Parks Director Jeff Hutchinson said the donations will be a welcome addition for the financially strapped parks system, which has had to lay off employees over the past few years and is perpetually short of money for maintenance and repairs of park facilities."We are excited about the increased awareness and additional funding for Coonskin Park," Hutchinson said. "This park is a great asset to the community, and we greatly appreciate Macy's support."
Macy's is working in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association on the nationwide fundraising campaign. Macy's stores across the country are picking one local park or green space to support through the campaign. Money will be used for maintenance and improvements.Macy's operates about 800 stores in 45 states; Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico and Guam.
