Two St. Albans men set fire to boxes, police say
ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- Police arrested two men for allegedly setting fire to several boxes behind the Kroger in St. Albans Friday night.
Daniel Lee Ferrell, 33, and Jameson David Edwards, 26, both of St. Albans, were charged with first-degree arson, according to a news release issued by St. Albans Police Capt. James Agee.
Just after 8 p.m. Friday, Kroger employees spotted several boxes on fire a few feet away from a 500-pound propane tank. St. Albans firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the boxes.
An employee told arriving police that they saw possible suspects in front of the store. Officers arrested the suspects, identified as Ferrell and Edwards.
Police allegedly found several knives and lighters on the two men during a search. Edwards then admitted to stealing a beer from the store before setting the fire, according to the release.
Police also identified the men on the store's security cameras, walking away from the area shortly after the fire began.Ferrell and Edwards are each being held in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $1,000 bail.
