Putnam man says he killed girlfriend for waking him
WINFIELD, W.Va. - A West Virginia man is being sentenced to life in prison after telling a judge he shot and killed his girlfriend last year because she interrupted his sleep.
Fifty-year-old Eric Brian Pauley pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Friday in Putnam County Circuit Court.
Pauley told Judge Phillip Stowers that he shot 52-year-old Debra Rosiek at their Winfield trailer in September 2011 because he was mad that she woke him up in the middle of the night.
The Charleston Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/VVAd9e) that Stowers questioned Pauley's state of mind during the hearing.
Stowers then accepted a plea agreement that called for Pauley to serve life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. He already has served more than one year behind bars.
