Boys basketball -- Catholic zooms by Buffalo 62-41

Senior center Patrick Herlihy tossed in a career-high 21 points Thursday night and Charleston Catholic used a big fourth quarter to shuffle past Buffalo 62-41 during a Class A sectional doubleheader at Huntington High School.With the win, the No. 4-ranked Irish (17-6) earn a date against No. 2 St. Joseph (18-2) in the Region 4 Section 2 finals at 7 p.m. today at Buffalo. St. Joe edged Wahama 63-59 in Thursday's opening game.Catholic coach Bill McClanahan recorded his 266th career victory, breaking a tie for the school record with Mickey McDade.Catholic used a 15-0 fourth-quarter run to break open its game against the Bison, who trailed just 40-36 entering the final period.
Garret McCarty and Nick George each added 13 points for Catholic. Buffalo (13-10) was led by Isaiah Robinson (12 points) and Laythen Good (nine points).St. Joseph overcame a poor shooting night at the foul line, as it made just 8 of 19 free throws in the final 2:49. Keith Clemons led St. Joe with 26 points and Hunter Rose paced Wahama (10-13) with 16 points.Winfield 58, Point Pleasant 44: Cole Schoolcraft hit two key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the host Generals broke open what had been a tight game. Schoolcraft (12 points, seven rebounds, four assists) was one of three players in double-figure scoring for the Generals (14-9), joining Zach Fisher (19 points, four steals) and Bear Bellomy (18 points, five rebounds). Winfield visits Hurricane for the Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 title at 7 p.m. Saturday. For the Big Blacks (14-9), Wade Martin had 16 points and Alex Somerville 13.Hurricane 84, Nitro 57: Henry Sorsaia tallied 22 points as Hurricane posted a Class AAA Region 4 Section 1 home win. Garrett DeFries added 17 points for the Redskins (17-6). Josiah Bosely scored 17 points for Nitro (5-18) and Ian Lee contributed 14.Valley 57, Richwood 51: Henry Barron-Houchins netted 15 points as Valley won a Class A Region 3 Section 2 home contest. Raeshawn Breckenridge and Zac Warden chipped in 13 points apiece for the Greyhounds (20-3). Jonathan Bard had 20 points for Richwood.
