Roundup: WVU Tech men defeat Shawnee State 70-56

Donald Robinson turned in 23 points as WVU Tech defeated Shawnee State 70-56 Thursday at the Baisi Center in Montgomery.Tech (21-7) came away with 20 steals, David Rawlinson had 12 points and Rahshon Tabb added 11 for the Golden Bears. Mark Bryant led Shawnee State (10-18) with 15 points.Tech closes out the regular season against No. 8 Georgetown 4 p.m. Saturday at the Baisi Center.

  • TECH WOMEN FALL: Alannah Sheets dropped in 16 points as Shawnee State downed WVU Tech 75-56 Thursday at the Baisi Center in Montgomery.Schera Sampson added 15 points for Shawnee State (23-4, ranked No. 7 in the NAIA). Amber Tully led Tech (6-22) with 16 points.

  • MU WOMEN FALL: Sedreka Plummer turned in 20 points as Southern Miss defeated Marshall 63-55 Thursday at the Reed Green Coliseum in Hattiesburg, Miss. Tanecka Carey added 18 points for the Golden Eagles. Rashedah Henriques, Shay Weaver and Lateidra Elliott each scored 12 points for Marshall (11-16, 5-9).

  • SENIOR SPORTS CLASSIC: The West Virginia Senior Sports Classic will take place June 21-23 in Charleston. Athletes will compete in five-year age groups, beginning with 50-54.The Classic will begin on June 21 with golf at Big Bend and tennis at the Kanawha City Recreation Center. Pickleball at the First Presbyterian Church and bowling at Venture Lane will be held June 22. Events scheduled for June 23 are men's and women's basketball, 5K races, softball, volleyball and swimming.

  • UC BASEBALL: The University of Charleston has pushed back its opening weekend series with California (Pa.) a day. The Golden Eagles and the Vulcans will play a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Sunday and a doubleheader at noon Monday.

  • LAWRENCE TO WESLEYAN: Ravenswood's Jeremy Lawrence signed a letter of intent to play football at West Virginia Wesleyan. Lawrence rushed for 928 yards and 16 touchdowns, reeled in 25 catches for 455 yards and two TDs and had four touchdowns on returns of kickoffs and interceptions.

  • WVU SWIMMING: Fifteen swimmers from West Virginia University earned All-Big East honors. Honorees for multiple events included Rachel Burnett, Taylor Camp, Bradley Eichenseer, Kata Fodor, Amanda Nugent, Danielle Smith, Tim Squires and Jenelle Zee.WVU coach Vic Riggs was named the Big East coach of the year and Burnett was the women's swimmer of the year.

  • NFF SCHOLAR ATHLETES: The West Virginia Chapter of the National Football Foundation is taking nominations for scholar athletes for the 2011 football season.
    Players must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5, a letter of recommendation from their high school coach and a list accomplishments in both football and community service.
