Prep softball: Lawrence's HR sends Hoover past Chapmanville
Lexi Lawrence blasted a two-run home run in the sixth inning to put Herbert Hoover ahead for good as the Huskies notched a 2-1 win at home against Chapmanville Tuesday.Chelsie Stover went 1-for-3 for Hoover (16-4), while McKenzie Edmonds added a hit. Heather Nagy went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Tigers (18-4).
RIPLEY 8, SC 0: Reese Gandee struck out seven and did not allow a hit for host Ripley in a six-inning game. Ali Cunningham, Abby Brannon and Ashley Mellinger each drove in two runs for the Vikings (16-7) in the MSAC fifth-place game.
Alli Burdette recorded nine strikeouts for South Charleston.
PARKERSBURG 6, NITRO 4: Nitro committed six errors as visiting Parkersburg picked up a win in the MSAC 11th-place game. Lindsay Moran had two hits and drove in two runs for the Big Reds, while Cassidy Newbaugh went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Melissa Belcher went 2-for-3 for the Wildcats (6-21), and Nichole Brown contributed a hit and two RBIs.
GW 6, HUNTINGTON 2: Bailey Rabel went 2-for-4 with a home run for visiting George Washington. Billie Murray surrendered just two hits for the Patriots (8-10).
VALLEY 9, CATHOLIC 3: Taylor Carver had a triple and three RBIs for visiting Valley (15-4). Charleston Catholic fell to 4-15.
NICHOLAS 15, CLAY 0: Freshman Whitney Robinson threw a three-inning no-hitter and went 2-for-3 to spark the visiting Grizzlies.
BUFFALO WINS TWO: Buffalo scored a total of 23 runs as the Bison bested Fayetteville 11-0 in six innings and 12-0 in four.
Katie Higginbotham went a combined 4-for-6, including a triple, for Buffalo (23-5). Morgan Wheeler had the lone hit Fayetteville in each game.
