Nitro's Korey Dunbar was named the Mountain State Athletic Conference baseball player of the year, while Brian Sutphin of Hurricane earned coach of the year honors.Dunbar, who was named the Gatorade state player of the year, hit .449 with 32 RBIs and had an ERA of 1.24 and struck out 98 in 62 innings on the mound for the Class AAA state runner-up Wildcats. Sutphin led the Redskins to a 27-6 season, but his team fell in the sectional tournament to Winfield.George Washington had three selections to the first team, including pitcher Joe Wong, outfielder Regan Patton and designated hitter Alex Levitan. Hurricane pitchers Drew Lawrence and Austin Hensley were also named to the first team, as were St. Albans pitcher Josh Kiser and infielder Dylan Ramsey, South Charleston's Rease Ripley, Taylor Fisher of Capital and Nitro's Dylan Slack. NORTH-SOUTH SOFTBALL: The North-South softball all-star games will be played Thursday in Buffalo. Three games will be played at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Buffalo will be represented in the games by Hannah Boyer, Casey Cunningham and Leslie Harris. WVU VOLLEYBALL: West Virginia volleyball coach Jill Kramer announced the hiring of Sara Kidd as an assistant coach. Kidd joins WVU from the Coast Volleyball Club in San Diego and previously worked as the director of volleyball operations at USC.
