The process is in motion for Marshall to meet Kentucky in basketball, but the contract has yet to be signed by both sides. The Thundering Herd could be headed to Rupp Arena just before Christmas, around Dec. 20. It would be the Herd's 12th attempt at knocking off the perennially powerful Wildcats, a streak of futility dating back to 1914.Marshall last played UK on Dec. 1, 2003, losing 89-76 at Cincinnati's U.S. Bank Arena. The Herd's last trip to Lexington came on Nov. 16, 2001, a 90-73 loss. While that plays out, MU officials and coach Tom Herrion are trying to piece together an event similar to the Global Sports Classic, which guarantees the Herd four home games. That would include a bout with the Classic's other host school, New Mexico State.
The Aggies went 26-9 last season, winning the Western Athletic Conference tournament and losing to Indiana in the NCAA first round. Marshall would return the game the next season in Las Cruces, N.M.In personnel matters, Marshall is still awaiting word from the NCAA on the eligibility of power forward Dennis Tinnon. But another item is more certain: Isaiah Williams will not play for the Herd. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward is academically eligible by NCAA standards, but reportedly is not in good standing with the university.Reach Doug Smock at 304-348-5130, firstname.lastname@example.org
