Roundup: Win tonight clinches playoff spot for Chaos

The West Virginia Chaos dropped a 2-0 decision to host Virginia Beach Saturday evening in a Premier Development League contest.Devin Pierce scored in the 22nd minute for the Piranhas, while Luis Zamora found the back of the net in the 26th minute.Chaos coach Chris Grassie gave many of his starters, like Dion Peters and Gabe Conelian, limited minutes in the game, hoping to keep his team fresh for tonight's season finale against Real Maryland.The Chaos (8-5-2) needs a win against the Monarchs to secure a spot in the PDL playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

  • WENDY'S AMATEUR TOUR: Earl Morgan of Pineville won a card-off against Hunter Owens of Oceana to win the Wendy's Amateur tour Saturday at Twisted Gun Golf Course in Wharncliffe. Morgan and Owens both shot a 1-under-par 71.
    Matthew Spry of St. Albans shot a 72 and Clendenin's Todd Westfall recorded a 73, each placing in the top 10. Elizabeth's Sammi Moore won the women's division with an 83. (Results, Page 2D.)

The event will include men's and women's open singles and doubles, open mixed doubles, boys and girls 18-and-under singles and men's 45-and-over singles.
