Prep roundup: Sissonville girls open with 3-1 win at East Fairmont
Taylor Rhodes, Madison Jones and Karli Pinkerton each notched a goal as Sissonville won 3-1 at East Fairmont in girls high school soccer Saturday.Nicole Licata scored the lone goal for the Bees (0-1) while goalkeeper Cheyann McQuain stopped nine shots. Brooke Reed had a pair of saves for the Indians (1-0).
CATHOLIC 3, PARK. SOUTH 1: Caroline Dundervill, Hannah George and Peyton Keener each scored as Charleston Catholic (2-0) upended Parkersburg South at Schoenbaum Stadium. Katie Sheets scored for the Patriots (0-1).
WINFIELD 5, WHEELING PARK 0: Winfield posted a shutout for a second straight day as the Generals (2-0) received goals from Katie Bryant (two), Jayne Lawman, Emily Cole and Mackenzie Pritt. Wheeling Park (0-2) was outshot 17-3.
HURRICANE 4, PRINCETON 0: Trevor Cunningham scored a pair of goals as the Redskins opened their season with a win at Princeton. Alex White added a goal and two assists for Hurricane, which also received a goal from Matt Morgan. The Redskins outshot the Tigers (1-1) 15-1.
GW 3, SC 0: Daniel Glines had a goal and an assist as George Washington tallied a win at Trace Fork in both teams' season opener. Peter Nelson and Graham Platz also scored for the Patriots. Hunter Moles stopped seven shots for South Charleston.
WINFIELD 2, SPRING VALLEY 1: Steven Taylor and Tyler Duty notched goals for the host Generals (1-0), while Will Howerton converted for the Timberwolves (0-1). Winfield goalie Bryce Boggs made five saves, while Spring Valley's Jacob Mesner stopped three shots.
GREEN. EAST 3, RIPLEY 1: Junior Stefan Marr-Madariaga recorded a pair of goals as Greenbrier East earned a win at the Paul Cline YMCA Soccer Complex in Beckley. Evan Ramsey added the final goal for the Spartans (1-0) while Alejandro Espino had Ripley's only tally. The combination of Chuck Sleboda and Caleb Jennings made 10 saves for the Vikings. McCaden Brackenrich only needed to make four for East.
CATHOLIC 5, BRIDGEPORT 1: Sam Revercomb netted three goals while William Scriptunas and Phillip Mallory each had one as Charleston Catholic bested Bridgeport at Schoenbaum Stadium. Brandon Hanlon got a second-half goal for the Indians (0-1). The Fighting Irish (1-0) had a 15-5 the edge in shots.
