Austin Loop, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from South Webster, Ohio, was added to the Marshall men's basketball roster Tuesday.Loop, who will be a non-scholarship player for the Herd, averaged 17.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.8 assists as a senior at South Webster High School last season. He was named the Ohio Division 4 Southeastern District player of the year and received All-Ohio first-team honors.nn
WVU SPORTS: Jess Crowder of the West Virginia women's soccer team earned two awards Tuesday - Big 12 defensive player of the week and CollegeSoccer360.com primetime performer. In just her third career start, Crowder and the WVU defense handed Stanford its first shutout loss in 25 games.
Following its upset win over previous No. 1 Stanford, the West Virginia women's team returned to the national rankings Tuesday, checking in at No. 24 in Soccer America's Top 25. WVU is just outside the national rankings in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, receiving nine votes.WVU's Eric Schoenle earned defensive most valuable player honors Tuesday for the WVU Nike Classic. Schoenle helped the men's team hold the opposition to a combined seven shots on goal as WVU shut out Stetson Monday. Joining Schoenle on the all-tournament team were seniors Peabo Doue and Travis Pittman and freshman Jamie Merriam.The West Virginia cross country team was ranked No. 21 in the USTFCCCA National Division I Women's preseason poll. The Mountaineers also received a No. 4 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic Region.The West Virginia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will again team up with the WVU Libraries this fall for the Mountaineer Touchdown Challenge, a fund-raising campaign to benefit the libraries.
