Soccer roundup: Catholic boys top Sissonville 6-2 in 1 vs. 2 battle
Sam Revercomb notched three goals as Charleston Catholic bested host Sissonville 6-2 Tuesday in a battle of Class AA-A No. 1 vs. No. 2 boys high school soccer teams.William Scriptunas posted a pair of goals for the top-ranked Fighting Irish (5-0) while Joey Trupo added one. Anthony Rinehart and Sam Gary netted goals for the No. 2 Indians (5-1).
GW 3, PARKERSBURG 0: George Washington handed Parkersburg its first loss of the season with the help of two goals by Garrett Warner, who got an assist from Caleb Barnett on his first goal and was unassisted on his second. Clay Thomas opened the scoring for GW (4-1-1) with an assist from Bailey Johnson. Patriots' goalkeeper Garrett Phillips blanked Parkersburg (5-1) for his fourth shutout.
BLUEFIELD 1, HOOVER 0: Donte Huff scored the lone goal as Bluefield (4-1) recorded a home win over Herbert Hoover (2-4). Hoover keeper Brett Strickland made 10 saves.
CATHOLIC 3, SPRING VALLEY 0:Caroline Dundervill recorded a goal and an assist as Charleston Catholic picked up a home win at Schoenbaum Stadium. Sarah Joseck and Payton Mullen also scored for the Fighting Irish (5-0).
PRINCETON 4, RIVERSIDE 3: Shaylah Walls scored a pair of goals while Sara Cole and Tori Billips added one each as Princeton picked up a road win. Maddie McDermitt scored twice for Riverside, including a direct free kick from just outside the penalty area. Kara Knapp had the other goal for the Warriors (3-2-1). Sam Powers and Lauren Sparks combined for 15 saves for Riverside, while Meredith Putorek stopped seven shots for Princeton (5-1).
HURRICANE 6, NITRO 1: Brittany Minor scored a pair of goals to lead Hurricane to a road win. Audry Barber, Abby Watson, Lauren Louden, Josie Kroeger also tallied goals for the Redskins (5-0). Savannah Miller netted the lone goal for Nitro (3-1).
HOOVER 5, POINT 0: Cassie Hames tallied a pair of goals as the Herbert Hoover earned a home win over Point Pleasant (2-2). Sarah Henderson, Amber Williams, Lillian Gandee each had a goal for the Huskies (4-3), who outshot the Big Blacks 35-5.
GW 16, SC 0: Eleven different George Washington players found the back of the net as the Patriots cruised to a win over South Charleston at the Trace Fork Soccer Complex. Sara Bodnar scored three goals for GW (4-1) while Andrea Breeden, Charlie Lucente and Taylor Ellis each netted a pair. Haley Claudio, Stephanie Kelly, Julia Foley, Gaby Abad, Kasey Rhodes, Caroline Barber and Gracie Switzer also added a goal apiece for the Patriots.
SISSONVILLE 7, CAPITAL 0: Lydia Murray scored three goals and Madison Jones added two as Sissonville (6-2) defeated visiting Capital (4-2). Taylor Rhodes and Jessica Layne each scored one goal for the Indians.
GREENBRIER EAST 5, OAK HILL 0: Ashton Holliday scored twice and added an assist in the win for Greenbrier East (4-2). Bri Coles and Kendra Forren also scored for the Spartans with an Oak Hill (2-2-2) own goal accounting for the other score. Lauren Prevett had an assist for Greenbrier East, which had a 19-0 advantage in shots.
