Hurricane and Charleston Catholic remained undefeated and No. 1 in Class AAA and AA-A boys high school state coaches association rankings, respectively, Monday. Unbeaten Morgantown retained the top spot in AAA girls while Bridgeport moved up to No. 1 in AA-A.Hurricane (10-0) was second followed by Parkersburg, Winfield, Huntington and Martinsburg in the AAA boys rankings. In AA-A, Catholic (11-0) was followed by East Fairmont, Weir, Williamstown and Ravenswood.Hurricane (9-0) was second in AAA girls followed by Winfield (8-0-1), Buckhannon-Upshur and George Washington. In AA-A, Sissonville was second followed by Grafton, Charleston Catholic, last week's No. 1 team, and Wheeling Central.RIVERSIDE 5, HOOVER 1: Cameron Norris tallied three goals to pace the host Warriors past Herbert Hoover. LOCAL VOLLEYBALL: The Charleston Civic Center High School Volleyball Showcase runs today through Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center with all matches beginning at 6 p.m. on four different courts. WVU SPORTS: West Virginia will hold its 22nd annual Sports Hall of Fame induction on Saturday prior to the WVU-Maryland football game.
Induction ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility. LOCAL GOLF: Parkersburg Country Club won this year's West Virginia Club Team Championship Sunday, where the group of four amateur golfers defeated the host team in a sudden-death playoff at Twisted Gun Golf course in Wharncliffe. UC GOLF: The University of Charleston women's team grabbed its first head-to-head victory in team history, beating Glenville State 327-374 Monday at Big Bend Golf Course. Freshman Kelli Garrett led the way for the Golden Eagles by firing a round of 74.
