Soccer roundup: Thompson scores 5 goals in Hurricane win
Felipe Thompson netted five goals as Class AAA No. 1 Hurricane downed visiting Woodrow Wilson 5-2 Thursday in boys high school soccer.Woodrow's Josh Moore stopped seven shots, while Brady Lawman made three saves for the Redskins (11-0).
SISSONVILLE 10, SCOTT 1: Anthony Rinehart scored three goals and added three assists as Class AA-A No. 8 Sissonville earned a home win. Caleb Calhoun also scored three goals for the Indians, while Wynston Agnew tallied two and Jacob Smith and Chaz Pittman had one apiece. Ryan Cowan scored for Scott.
ST. ALBANS 2, SPRING VALLEY 1: Jack Wiles and Benny Gregg scored for the Red Dragons (3-8-1). Jose Ventura scored for Spring Valley.
GW 4, PRINCETON 1: Drew Davis, Garrett Warner, Daniel Glines and Peter Nelson each scored as Class AAA No. 7 George Washington (9-3-1) downed Princeton. The Patriots outshot the Tigers 11-3.
ST. JOSEPH 7, HOOVER 1: Steven Jenkins and Lakin Brooks each tallied a pair of goals as Class AA-A No. 14 St. Joseph cruised to a road win over Herbert Hoover. Brian Conaty, Evan Goetz and Vincent Mays also scored for the Irish (6-5-1). Troy Silber scored the lone goal for the Huskies (3-9-1).
GREEN. EAST 2, SHADY 0: Jacob Baker converted a penalty kick in the first half as Greenbrier East downed visiting Shady Spring. Stefan Marr-Mariadaga scored for the Spartans (5-7-1) in the second half. Jonathan Beckett made 20 saves for the Tigers (4-5-1), while Mac Brackenrich stopped four shots for Greenbrier East.
SISSONVILLE 6, SHADY 0: Sissonville's Lydia Murray and Madison Jones each scored three goals as the Indians defeated Shady Spring. Jones added two assists for Sissonville (12-2) while Murray, Courtney Strobel, Mary Schmeck and Jessica Layne each had an assist.
ST. ALBANS 2, SPRING VALLEY 1: Maddie Cogar and Audrey Good each scored to help St. Albans (3-4-1) defeat Spring Valley. Amy Stewart scored for the Timberwolves (5-7).
GREENBRIER EAST 5, POCAHONTAS 1: Shae West scored two goals while Lauren Prevett, Erin Johnson and Ashton Holliday each added one score to lead Greenbrier East (5-4) to the road win at Pocahontas County. Samantha Wilson scored for the Warriors.
