Concord finished the West Virginia Conference Central Regional Golf tournament at Canaan Valley as the only team under par, winning the title with an 8-under par 568 for the two-day event. The University of Charleston placed fifth at 589 and West Virginia State shot 604 to finish seventh. Concord's Evan Muscari shot a 68 in each round to take the individual title with a total of 136. West Virginia State's Taylor Green fired a 140 to tie for third place with Davis & Elkins' Phil Rutherford. UC's best individual finish came from Shane Chaplin at 145.
WVU SOCCER: West Virginia women's soccer players Bry McCarthy and Frances Silva each earned individual honors from the Big 12 as the conference's offensive and defensive players of the week.
The WVU men's soccer team moved up one spot to No. 17 in this week's Soccer America Top 25 poll.
LOCAL WRESTLING: The Dawg House Gym in Charleston will be offering a preseason wrestling conditioning class for all area middle school and high school wrestlers. The class begins Oct. 2 and will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:45 p.m. through Oct. 25. Cost of the class is $45.
UC SOCCER: The No. 11-ranked Charleston men's soccer team scored three second-half goals in downing host Concord 3-0 Tuesday to remain unbeaten. Rob Vincent, Renan Ramos and Garrett Listo all found the back of the net for UC (4-0-2). Goalie Sean Teepen registered the shutout for the Golden Eagles without making a single save.
Lauren Haven scored her first goal of the season in the 38th minute as the UC women's soccer team (3-5-1) managed a 1-1 draw at Concord. Alyanna James tallied in the 72nd minute to preserve the draw for the Bobcats, who played the majority of the game with only 10 players on the field when Erika Hoff was sent off in the 42nd minute.
