Soccer roundup: Sissonville girls blank Hoover

In a battle between Class AA-A ranked teams, No. 1 Sissonville shut out host No. 6 Herbert Hoover 6-0 in girls soccer on Tuesday.Madison Jones and Karli Pinkerton each scored two goals for the Indians (18-2) with Lydia Murray and Cassidy Lewis each adding a score.Sissonville led Hoover (12-5-1) at halftime 3-0 before extending the lead in the second half. Hoover goalkeeper Bailey Aab made 14 saves and Sissonville's Brooke Reed, rarely tested, only had to make two saves.
  • CAPITAL 6, POCA 0: Poca (7-9-1) trailed Capital 2-0 at halftime before giving way to the Cougars in the second half.
  • For Capital (9-10-1), Lauren Johnson scored twice, with Emily Henry, Ally Reeves, Michelle Newhouse and Katie Crowder adding single scores.
  • CATHOLIC 11, SHERMAN 0: Charleston Catholic had 10 players score in a Senior Night win against visiting Sherman, including the Irish's two seniors.
  • Caroline Dunderville scored twice with Peyton Mullen, Quincy McKown, Mary Catherine Depond, Emily Homes, Amanda George, Anna Whelan, Casey Gennette and seniors Jenny Borman and Hannah George each adding one goal for Catholic (12-4-2).
    BoysFelipe Thompson scored four goals to lead Class AAA No. 1 Hurricane to a 6-0 boys soccer win at Riverside (5-10-2).Trevor Cunningham and Alex White each added goals for the Redskins (18-0).
  • HOOVER 2, NICHOLAS 2: Andrew Mercer and Troy Silber each scored for the Huskies in a draw at Nicholas County. The Grizzlies' Jake Tyler and Andrew Ray each scored goals with Ray also getting the assist on Tyler's scoring strike. For Hoover (5-11-2), Thomas Cantebury had the only assist.
  • POINT 2, WINFIELD 0: Winfield goalkeeper Bryce Boggs made two saves, but Point Pleasant's Wyatt Wamsley and Steve Porter each scored goals to lead the Big Blacks to the win. Point Pleasant goalkeeper Brady Reymond made 11 saves against the Generals (12-4-2).
  • CAPITAL 2, CABELL MIDLAND 2: Christian Huffman and Zach Koontz each scored for the Cougars (5-8-4) in their draw with visiting Cabell Midland. Caleb Mitchell and Carter Sutton scored Midland's goals.
