Wahama senior kicker Zack Wamsley booted a 27-yard field goal with 25 seconds to play as the No. 3 White Falcons upset No. 2 Magnolia 17-10 in the Class A football playoff semifinals Saturday in New Martinsville.Wahama is headed to its second trip to the Super Six in the last three years, where the White Falcons will face No. 4 Madonna. Wahama lost to Wheeling Central in the 2010 Class A championship game.Wahama (13-0) benefited from a Kage Rohde fumble that the White Falcons recovered to begin their drive for the game-winning score.Both teams struggled to put much together on offense with Magnolia (11-2) scoring first on a 1-yard run by Tanner Hanna in the second quarter.
Wahama answered in the third quarter when Colton Neal caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Trenton Gibbs to tie the game before Wamsley's field goal put the White Falcons ahead for good late in the fourth quarter.The last time Wahama and Madonna played was in the 2011 regular season, when the host White Falcons trounced the Blue Dons 33-0 in late October.MADONNA 20, TUCKER 14, 2 OTs: Elliot Nero forced a Tucker County fumble in the second overtime and three plays later No. 4 Madonna scored a touchdown to beat the No. 1 Mountain Lions in double overtime Saturday and punch its ticket for next Saturday's Class A state championship game.
Ross Comis ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns for the visiting Blue Dons (12-1), including the game-winner, on 27 carries and threw for 138 yards on 11 of 22 passing. Nero gained 66 yards on 18 carries and scored a first-quarter touchdown for Madonna.Tucker County (12-1) was held to just 60 rushing yards and quarterback Derek Nestor completed 7 of 24 passing attempts for 105 yards and an interception. Nestor also scored a rushing touchdown in the third quarter.It will be Madonna's first Super Six appearance since beating Man 27-7 for the state championship in 2009.
