The University of Charleston's Terrell Lipkins and Glenville State's D.J. Blanks were named co-West Virginia Conference men's basketball players of the week on Monday.Lipkins averaged 28 points, five assists, 4.5 rebounds, and three steals per game as the Golden Eagles went 2-0 on the week.Blanks came off the bench and registered a triple-double in the Pioneers' conference-opening win over Wheeling Jesuit. Blanks had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists in the game.Bluefield State's Tasia Nolan was named the league's women's player of the week after scoring 26 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a win over Pitt-Johnstown.
The West Virginia State women's tennis team is currently ranked 36th in the country according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. It's the highest national ranking the program has ever received.

CLASSIC FIELD SET: The field has been set for the Capital City Classic Showcase two-day basketball event at the Charleston Catholic Athletic Complex.
On Friday, Dec. 28, Catholic's girls play Poca at 1 p.m., followed by Chapmanville and Keyser girls and Catholic and Braxton County boys (see schedule, Page 2B).Tolsia and Keyser girls tip off at noon on Saturday, Dec. 29, followed by Capital and University (girls), Greater Beckley Christian and St. Joseph (boys), a junior varsity game, Catholic vs. Summers County (girls) and the Irish boys versus Summers at approximately 7:30.nn
MU SOFTBALL: The Marshall softball team will face nine teams that participated in last year's NCAA tournament as the 2013 schedule was unveiled Monday.
Twenty-two home games are included on the 55-game schedule. There are four non-conference tournaments spread out over the first four weekends of play.It will also be the last Conference USA meetings with Houston, Memphis and Central Florida, as they all exit for the Big East following the 2013 season.Marshall starts its season in Tampa, Fla., during the USF-DeMarini Tournament Feb. 8-10 against Michigan and South Florida.
WVSA COACHING COURSE: The West Virginia Soccer Association will hold a U.S. Youth Soccer "D" license coaching course Jan. 11-13 and Jan. 25-27 in Huntington.Candidates will need to pass written tests and a practical coaching test on the last day of the course.The cost is $150 and participants must have already obtained an "E" license.
