Roundup: Stratford promoted to WVU men's soccer assistant
CHARLESTON, W.Va. --
West Virginia University men's soccer coach Martin LeBlanc announced the hiring for former Mountaineer Dan Stratford for the job of assistant coach.
Stratford spent the previous two seasons as a volunteer assistant for WVU and holds school records for games played (85) and assists (27). After playing for the Mountaineers from 2004 to 2007, Stratford was selected with the 24th pick of the 1008 Major League Soccer supplemental draft by D.C. United.
He appeared in five games for United, including one start. From there he moved to Inverness of the Scottish Premier League in 2009 and played for Hereford United of England's League Two in 2010.
MU SOFTBALL: Marshall softball will host the Diamond Club Dinner on Jan. 25 at the Marshall University Foundation Hall. The keynote speaker will be two-time Olympian Natasha Watley.
There will be a reception, cash bar and a silent auction beginning at 6 p.m. with the dinner and program at 7 p.m. Tickets are available to individuals for $50 and groups of up to eight can choose to purchase a sponsored table for $750.

PREP SWIMMING: The Huntington Y Charleston Aquatic Team will be sponsoring the 22nd annual HYCAT December High School Invitational Swim Meet Saturday at the University of Charleston. Charleston Catholic will serve as the host school for the meet.
The meet will feature approximately 160 swimmers from eight schools. George Washington, Capital, Charleston Catholic, Liberty Harrison, Nitro, Notre Dame, Robert C. Byrd and South Charleston will compete starting at 1:15 p.m.
WVC FOOTBALL: Concord coach Garin Justice announced Wednesday that Steve Adams has been promoted to co-defensive coordinator for the Mountain Lions.
Adams previously coached the defensive backs and was recruiting coordinator prior to the promotion.
Lindsay Prichard led Lincoln County (0-1) with 12 points.
Baylee Stewart netted a game-high 21 points for Braxton while Hunter Sodaro added 19. Brooklyn Perkey had 19 points for the Minutemaids and Danielle James tossed in 10.
