MU's Cato, Shuler first-team All-CUSA selections
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Marshall Football had nine players named to the All-Conference USA teams on Tuesday, including quarterback Rakeem Cato and wide receiver Tommy Shuler, who earned first-team accolades.
Tight end Gator Hoskins, wide receiver Aaron Dobson and strong safety Dominick LeGrande were voted to the second team, while Kevin Grooms, Cameron Dees, D.J. Hunter and Tyler Williams earned spots on the league's all-freshman team.
Cato leads the Football Bowl Subdivision in completions per game (33.83) and passing yards per game (350.08) and is third in TD passes (37) and fifth in total offense per game (352.67) and completion percentage (69.5).
Shuler is tied for second nationally with 9.17 catches per game (leading C-USA) and his 110 total catches set a school record, becoming just the fifth C-USA student-athlete to record 100-plus single-season catches. He's second in the league in receiving yards per game (94.8).
Dobson is seventh in the league in catches per game (5.7) and receiving yards (67.9). He finished his career with 24 touchdown receptions, tying former NFL star Troy Brown for fourth on the school's all-time list. Dobson finished ninth in school history with 2,398 receiving yards and will attend this year's Senior Bowl.
Earning honorable mention all-conference honors for the Thundering Herd were Chris Jasperse, Jordan Jeffries, Alex Schooler, Antavious Wilson, Alex Bazzie, Brandon Sparrow, Okechukwu Okoroha and Justin Haig.
C-USA champion Tulsa produced the most total selections with 10, while East Division champion UCF had the most first-team choices with six, followed by the Golden Hurricane with five. The Knights ranked second in total selections with nine, while SMU had seven and East Carolina and Houston each produced six.
